Milaaya Art Foundation

  • About

The Milaaya Art Foundation, founded by Gayatri Khanna in 2024, aims to preserve and elevate the craft of hand embroidery by empowering artisans through training, fair compensation, improved working conditions, and community support.

Milaaya Art Foundation (MAF) was established to preserve and elevate the dying craft of hand embroidery, a skill passed down through generations. In a time when younger generations are seeking modern alternatives for livelihood, traditional crafts like hand embroidery face significant challenges, with many artisans being exploited in sweatshops or facing diminishing opportunities.

    Milaaya Art Foundation’s Mission

    • To sustain the craft of hand embroidery by providing artisans with specialized training in couture embroidery.

    • To offer artisans better compensation, improved working conditions, and corporate benefits.

    • To provide housing for artisans, helping them live closer to their families and eliminating the challenges of relocating to large cities.

    • To create more local ateliers, encouraging artisans to work in better conditions.

The foundation is committed to working inclusively with other organizations, and its initiatives aim to benefit entire artisan communities, not just individual artisans.
